Previously, Metallicus announced its intention to enter the L2 space with Metal L2 and $MTL (Metal DAO) as the government. Many new Ethereum L2 projects have appeared, but none of them have the ecosystem and history that Metal DAO has. Metal Pay, launched in 2018, is a cryptocurrency trading and payments app for consumers.  The original “Venmo of cryptocurrencies,” Metal Pay, has obtained financial licenses in the US, operating in 46 states with plans to expand internationally (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, Oceania). In 2023, Metal Pay moved to run all operations on the XPR network through the Metal X decentralized exchange. The WebAuth wallet was created to support web authentication and digital identity on the blockchain. The Metal Dollar stablecoin basket was created to connect all major stablecoins and participating financial institutions that could issue and redeem from one collateralized basket. It is currently in production and powers all operations in the Metal Pay and Metal X DEX app. Metallicus has been a consistent innovator in crypto, focusing on web authentication, a basket of stablecoins, digital identity, and more. By adopting Ethereum Metal L2, you can quickly grow your existing ecosystem while supporting Ethereum scaling. It's time to take the next step with Metal DAO, creating an open source version of Metal Pay that anyone can run on Metal X (whether on Metal L2, XPR, etc.) and expanding WebAuth to Ethereum and the Optimism stack. Let's realize the vision of fast and easy payments in the browser using the secure enclave, the vision that was started with the Metal ecosystem, on Ethereum through Metal L2. How can we make this change and start running a Metal Layer 2 in Optimism? To do this, we will need to introduce the idea of some form of continuous issuance that covers the cost of gas at the base layer: Ethereum. With the introduction of EIP-4844, also known as "Proto-Danksharding", the operating costs of the base layer should be significantly reduced; Still, there needs to be some way to create an ongoing mechanism to ensure that the initial cost of ETH is covered for the layer to operate. Additionally, developer and core development grants are essential for growing a self-employed organization. I propose that if the community wishes, we can evolve MTL through a v2 smart contract upgrade. Metallicus has begun the main work of deploying Metal L2 on testnet, while preparing WebAuth, Metal Dollar and Metal X for Metal L2. We have created a smart contract v2 audited by @peckshield that would create the ability to do this. We have started creating the necessary components for an open source plug-and-play Metal Pay that can operate on Metal L2 with Metal X. The next step is up to the community if we want to implement this and make the leap! If the Metal DAO community wants this to happen, today we are ready to activate Metal L2 on the mainnet.
